Ise Katagami Cooperative Association

Ise Katagami are stencils used to dye patterns onto kimono fabric. They are said to have a history of over 1,000 years. Today, Ise Katagami are used not only as dyeing tools, but also in a variety of ways, such as interior decoration and design. The Suzuka City Traditional Industries Museum introduces the manufacturing process of Ise Katagami and displays and sells products. Visitors can also try their hand at carving and dyeing.

You may take photographs of the items for sale in the gallery space within the Traditional Industries Museum, the Ise Katagami for sale in the exhibition room, and the exhibits.

If you would like to participate in a hands-on experience, please contact us in advance to check if a dedicated room is available. Even if you are only planning to tour the facility, please let us know at least two weeks in advance if you are coming with 10 or more people.
